So, last week I thought it was about time (change of seasons and all) that I treated myself to a facial.

But this wasn’t just any facial – enter Emma Bennett, ‘advanced facialist’ extraordinaire! Emma offers luxury problem solving facials from a number of different locations in and around London and luckily for me one of those locations is the Amida Spa at the David Lloyd Club in Beckenham, which is where I happen to swim – yey!

Emma’s ethos is very much in line with my approach to ageing, as all her treatments are non-invasive and contain no toxins, fillers or parabens; she wholeheartedly embraces the concept of ‘intelligent ageing’. She seeks to harness the body’s own natural healing process to rejuvenate collagen and elastin which are the foundations of great skin and, working alongside some of the industry’s leading doctors, she uses only the highest grade cosmeceuticals to achieve visible and powerful results. Treatments are completely bespoke to the individual and address all major skin concerns such as pigmentation, acne, scars and ageing. Emma’s treatments have become increasingly popular as the trend toward botox, fillers and other invasive treatments dissipates and the consumer looks to an altogether more natural approach to ageing and great looking skin.

So what does the ‘advanced’ Bespoke Signature Facial involve?

Prep:
1st Cleanse – to remove make up & pollutions
2nd Cleanse – with Clarisonic facial brush (deeper cleanse to clean pores)
1st Exfoliant – bamboo & lactic scrub to loosen/remove dead skin
2nd Exfoliant – gentle fruit enzyme peel that is also applied over the eye lids, neck and lips

Correct:
pHformula – a light peel to resurface and target concerns such as acne, pigmentation, or fine lines in my case

Eraclea Pure Hydrate Serum applied with Dermaroller (the micro-needling effect of the roller is used to create ‘controlled trauma :-0’ to trick the skin into going into repair and rebuild mode, stimulating fibroblasts and producing more collagen = rejuvenated and younger looking skin). I know, micro-needling sounds like torture, but believe me, it wasn’t in the least bit painful 🙂

Treat:
Lift and Sculpt facial massage – this encourages blood/oxygen flow to the muscles which aids the detoxification process, helping not only to lift but also reduce puffiness. This was quite something lemme tell you – none of those light and fluffy strokes here peoples – this really felt like my face was participating in a Jane Fonda workout!

I’ve written about the wonders of light therapy previously, so when Emma produced the LED mask, I knew I was in for a treat! I used the Red light for anti ageing but, the other options are Blue for breakouts and Green for sensitive skin/redness. The wavelengths travel through the skin at different levels and treat all the aforementioned concerns. It also has the added benefit of creating an overall feeling of well-being – essential when it snows in April! During the 15 minutes that the light therapy was applied, Emma provided a soothing neck and shoulder massage.

Treatment mask – depending on your skin concern, a choice of Bee Venom, Q10 and Caviar, or Goji berry are available – I had Goji berry 🙂

Finish:
Eraclea Vitamin C serum, eye cream, neck cream and day cream, SPF50 and lip balm

Result:
Indeed, what a result! My skin looked the best it’s looked in a long while – really radiant, more youthful/lifted (sort of) and, exceptionally clear. The effects only increased over the following days and peaked on about day 4, but my skin still feels really refreshed almost 7 days later, which is no mean feat, given my tendency toward insomnia :-0

I’m curious to know what, if any, are the long-term benefits of the ‘advanced facial’ versus some of the more invasive alternatives out there, so in the name of research, I will be undergoing a course of 5 of these facials over the next few weeks and will publish the results (with pics – eeekkk!) in due course…

Brands:
Eraclea is a US brand that Emma has been tasked with launching here in the UK. It has 25 years worth of research behind it and has a patented and unique HylaSponge hyaluronic acid delivery system (that’s hydration to you and me!) that works on 3 different levels ensuring maximum penetration even to the deepest layers of your skin as well as plumping out the surface layer and everything in between – great news for maturing skin and bad news for those wrinkles!

pHformula is a Barcelona based company (with UK distributors) that specialises in the use of medical grade acids in the management of common skin disorders. All skin resurfacing treatment developments are based on the latest technology in regenerative medicine, and are unlike anything else that’s been introduced to the professional skincare market, helping to achieve the best possible results.

Cost:
Treatment prices start at £130 for 75 minutes.

Emma is available by appointment and can be contacted on 07758 516995.

Remember, you can never have too many facials! Well you probably can, but why not treat yourself anyway….
