We’re always being advised to drink plenty of water but there are many different opinions on exactly how much we should be drinking every day. Two litres is the most commonly recommended amount, and given that the body is about 60% water which is constantly being lost primarily through urine and sweat, it’s important that we get the balance right. For most healthy people, drinking little and often throughout the day is the best approach. Drink a little more, but not too much, when it’s hot or you are exercising, and listen to your body – it will let you know whether you are drinking too much or too little.
