Lifestyles of the rich and famous… cannot be found here! But, I can bring you ‘Your Beauty Secrets’, where each week, one ‘fabulously ageless’ beeyoutee steps in front of the bathroom mirror, to reveal details about their diet, lifestyle and most importantly, skincare routine; including those products they simply can’t live without!

This week, revealing what’s in her bathroom cabinet, is the gorgeous Irene Bell; a 46 year old Italian Fine Food Specialist from Kent. In the name of ‘intelligent ageing’, Irene will also be offering her own musings on what we might all wish to consider doing, in order to ‘age intelligently’…

Irene Bell 1vs2

IRENE, WHAT’S YOUR DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE?
Morning is a splash with face wash in the shower with Avene Extremely Gentle Cleansing Lotion, then a nice thick layer of Avene Hydrance Optimale Riche hydrating cream SPF 20. I wear daytime moisturiser with a built in sunscreen, all year round. I’m not keen on looking like a dried walnut when I’m 50! I pay more attention to skincare routine at night – I have to clean off the day before I hit the sack. Double cleanse with Avene Extremely Gentle Cleansing lotion, a few drops of Azelaic Acid*, then slap on some Avene Serum Hydrance Optimale Pure facial oil and finally, a night moisturiser, Hydraphase Intense Riche by La Roche Posay.
With all that lot on, you’d think I would slide off the pillow, but not so! I have mild rosacea, but because of that my skin soaks up a lot of product.

HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU STARTED TO LOOK AFTER YOUR SKIN?
My mum always took care of her skin so I just copied and starting using products like her Clinique moisturiser. I had mild acne as a teen so was encouraged to look after my skin to avoid getting zits. I used to be able to use most skincare products but turning 40 bought me rosacea – very unfab – which made me rethink everything I used on my skin. A visit to a great dermatologist pointed me in the right direction with Azelaic Acid, which is amazing!

WHAT PRODUCTS COULDN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?
All the facial products above! I also love Pure Super Grape overnight facial oil from M&S, made from a by product of wine making, cheers! A pot of Vaseline goes everywhere with me and Nuxe Body Oil; I guess I could live without it but you only live once so why bother?

DO YOU HAVE AN EXERCISE ROUTINE?
Sort of – running, pilates and the gym. It’s a fantastic week if I do all 3. On average I do 2 things, so a couple of hours a week.

DO YOU CONSIDER THAT YOU HAVE A WELL BALANCED DIET AND IF SO, WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?
I always cook fresh food from scratch and don’t do diets. I stick to regular portion sizes and avoid eating and drinking crap, like fast food and fizzy drinks – I just don’t like that kind of food. My background is Italian so my diet echoes that, and it’s definitely a strong influence. My diet has to include pasta, red wine and dark chocolate on a regular basis to be balanced!

DO YOU TAKE ANY SUPPLEMENTS AND IF SO, WHAT ARE THEY? Irene Bell 2vs2
When I remember but it’s a bit hit and miss – usually a multi-vitamin of some kind.

TO WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE YOUR YOUTHFUL LOOKS?
I don’t think too much about looking youthful; I’m not sure how I’m meant to look or even feel at 46 but, I certainly don’t feel old so perhaps that’s a positive? I suppose genes must play a part though, and extra virgin olive oil!

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR ‘INTELLIGENT AGEING’?
Change is good but don’t chase perfection, particularly when it comes to your appearance; but also generally in life! I guess getting your priorities right is another way of looking at it. Have experiences and hang out with people that energise you and feed your mind, not your insecurities.
Finally, on a more practical note, don’t wear too much make-up, it ages you!

Irene, thanks for sharing ‘Your Beauty Secrets’ with Zodleblog… x

🙂
