Have I died and gone to heaven?! No, it’s just the new beauty lounge at Harvey Nichols

Shallow I know, but I’m like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to beauty stores, so when I heard that Harvey Nichols in London were opening a new 13,000 sq ft luxury beauty lounge brimming with beauty products, beauty services, fragrance and must have accessories, I knew I just had to goooooo…………. Harvey Nichols is currently undergoing some major refurbishment works, and I gotta be honest, it’s not before time! Their image as a luxury department store has been a little lacklustre of late and I get the impression that they’ve been struggling to keep up with...

Smooth Mama’s gone all posh with this quincey number

1 small avocado 1 small mango 1 quince 1 tbs spirulina 1 tbs chia seeds 1 cup coconut water dash of guarana mint to garnish Sweet quince, primarily a middle Eastern fruit, can be found in Turkish supermarkets but, there are also German quince which have a fluffy outer skin and should not be eaten raw apparently! Love this ultra fab SPF for my visage!

Those Swiss folk at Ultrasun know how to do sun protection and they’ve come up trumps with their Anti-Ageing range specifically for the Face. I’m currently using their Anti-Age SPF30 “for very sensitive skin”. This ‘once a day’ (love that) cream contains a combo of UVA and UVB protection and, has the added benefit of powerful antioxidants that are alleged to restore optimal moisture levels and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Well the jury’s still out on the wrinkles bit, but it’s super-fast absorption and light-weight, non-greasy texture make this a real winner for me – there are so many...

Ola! Facial oils and another Spanish skincare find

The Spaniards have got it going on when it comes to uncomplicated skincare, so when I received a facial oil and balm by Spanish brand Alex Carro, I had high expectations. But, before I go into the deets of the products I’ve been trying out, let’s talk about facial oils, because everyone else (in the beauty world) is. The only facial oil I’m familiar with, is the one I blot with a tissue when I’m looking a little shiny, so why would I want to slather more oil on my face?!? Well apparently, pure facial oils are a great...

Food for thought

The world is increasingly designed to depress us. Happiness isn’t very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more? How do you sell an anti-ageing moisturiser? You make someone worry about ageing. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them...
